XP Updates failing?

This one is actually such a easy fix once you know what to do. Sad that Microsoft doesnt have a method for it that is damn near automated in my opinion but here it is, you try to do your windows updates and it fails with just a message of the following updates were not installed, and it lists all of the updates you just tried to install. It doesnt matter if you try to do all of them at once or only one at a time. End result is always the same and you slowly slip farther behind with the updates piling up yet failing even though they have perhaps already even downloaded.

So here is how you fix it. Click on start and then click on run.

Type cmd and hit enter, this will open a Command Prompt. (Dos window)

At the prompt type in the following, press enter after each command

net stop wuauserv

regsvr32 wups2.dll

net start wuauserv

Now to close out the Command Prompt just type exit and hit enter one more time.

Now go back and do your updates, this time and hopefully everytime going forward you should have no issues.

>Most people will never know why it failed but honestly there is a couple of places you can look to find out and get a clue. Start by searching for the WindowsUpdate.log and read it, yes if your not a geek its cryptic, but to the very bottom and start looking for WARNING: Fatal: and error = 0x(something) that something is the real clue, again a place Microsoft basically couldnt do a worse job. Translate the error messages for everyone locally!!!
