Wireless in Windows w/wlan utility for ZyDAS 1211 USB adapter

w/wlan utility for ZyDAS 1211 USB adapter

This is specific to this utility (WLanUtil) only and while it might be similar for other wifi utilities that is not mean it would work for anything else.

This utility replaces the Windows (WZC) Wireless Zero Configuration Service and on the few times i have seen it, trying to use the Windows WZC service instead will not work. Linksys has their own utility that does something similar but it can be turned off and use the Windows WZC and your connection will work. This is the prefered way because the WZC service is on every windows XP machine so frankly more people are used to it.

With this one sadly you cant, so here is how to get it connected.

You should have a icon in the tray that looks like you see below.

Click on it and you should see the various wireless networks in your area, click on the one your wanting to connect to and if you have connected before you should just connect, you might be prompted if you should use the last used configuration. If its the first time you have connected to this access point and its secured (encrypted) you will be asked for the key or passphrase. typing it you should be connected one you click on accept or OK.

If its not running in your tray click on Start >  All Programs > IEEE 802.11g USB Wireless LAN Adapter > IEEE 802.11g USB Wireless LAN Utility. Now you should have it running in your tray and you can follow as directed above.

If it will not starting up something has probably crashed which is preventing it from doing so, this can be verified by looking in the event logger but in reality the only thing that will change it is to reboot. Might not hurt to make it a full shutdown instead too.

Once it is running when you first do open it, it may not show any networks until you click on scan, doing so should give you a listing of various Access Points it see's along with signal strength of each AP seen. Click on the one your wanting to connect to and click on connect.
